CC in Automobiles

The term CC used in automobiles stands for cubic centimeters. It is the unit for Engine Displacement of the automobiles having internal combustion engine(ICE).Engine displacement is the volume swept by all the pistons inside the cylinders of an ICE in a single movement from top dead center to bottom dead center.

Engine displacement is determined by the bore and stroke of an engine's cylinders. The bore is the diameter of the circular chambers cut into the cylindrical block.Stroke is the distance the piston travels.

The displacement of an internal combustion engine is calculated mathematically by

For a typical 4 cylinder engine,

Engine Displacement is also measured in liters, cubic inches.

For example, the displacement of 2.0 (liter) engine in cc is 2000cc.

A 4 Stroke engine is an ICE whose complete cylinder cycles consist of 4 discreet strokes. They are Induction,Compression,Power and Exhaust Strokes.
